Enrolled as a pre-med student at Oregon State University in 1996, Jacky Tai spent the first 2 years his college career working as a costume technician at the OSU Theater Department. The interesting costumes of different time periods inspired him to take a detour into fashion. Against his parents’ wishes, Jacky Tai pursued what he thought was the best for him. He graduated in 2001 with a BS of Apparel design and a Graphic design minor. He continued to further his skills by spending 3 months in Vietnam to learn the art of creating the beautiful Vietnamese Ao Dai and took on makeup classes under the direction of Nguyen Hung Cantho.
Jacky was born in South Vietnam (Cantho) and raised in Portland, Oregon. After graduating from OSU, he opened One Stop Wedding Boutique, a full service bridal salon that catered to every need including traditional dresses, cocktail dresses, wedding gowns, makeup/hair services, and especially custom made designs. One Stop Wedding Boutique enjoyed two years of great success, but Jacky believed there was more in store for his career. Closing up shop during its peak years, Jacky packed his belongings and moved to sunny Southern California to further his career. Upon arriving in Los Angeles, Jacky was immediately introduced into the limelight of the entertainment world through an up-and-coming singer. Door after door opened and led Jacky down a shining path working with the top Vietnamese entertainment productions (Paris by Night, Van Son, Asia, Do Thanh, Blue Ocean, D&D, MFC…).
Jacky’s Ao Dai and evening gown designs, as well as makeup artistry are also highly popular on Vietnamese pageant stage. His Ao Dai designs have won more than 10 best traditional costume awards at many pageants nationally. Today, Jacky Tai designs can be seen in almost every Vietnamese pageant in the USA.
People often ask: “What does Jacky Tai like to do more? Fashion or Makeup?” “Of course, BOTH!” he always answers. It goes hand-in-hand; makeup/hair enhances and completes the absolute vision and direction of the fashion pieces. Therefore, Jacky is very hands on with the hair & makeup design process for his own runway shows.
Along with fashion makeup, he is in high demand as a wedding makeup artist and hair stylist. Jacky Tai takes his years of experience in a bridal salon combined with his years in the entertainment world to help his brides shine on their big day.
